What Are Your Classics?

Have you all been keeping up with Joanna Goddard’s basic food series?  She’s trying to teach herself to cook by mastering classic recipes she believes every mom/wife/lady should know, and she’s had a killer lineup of guest bloggers so far. The other night, I figured out exactly why Luisa’s pasta sauce made the cut.  Adding a dollop of ricotta to a simple sauce of tomatoes and garlic took a plain weeknight dinner to a meal I’d serve for company.  And in only about 10 extra seconds.

I love checking in with the series every Thursday, not just to see who is blogging, but also what they’re blogging about.  What are A Cup of Jo’s Classics going to be?  And better yet, what are mine?

This is what I’ve come up with so far:

  1. Macaroni and Cheese
  2. Grilled Cheese
  3. Guacamole
  4. Chocolate Chip Cookies
  5. Meatloaf (I keep meaning to show you Grandma Glass of Milk’s recipe)
  6. Lemon Cake
  7. Roast Chicken
  8. Pesto
  9. Pancakes

What about you dear readers?  What are your classics?  What you can make with your eyes closed, or what you feel like you should be able to?

  1. Ohh, thanks for the link to the mac and cheese recipe. I’ve been looking for one to pair with my canned ham and green bean casserole for the 1960s housewife dinner I’m making on Sunday night. Can’t wait to see your take on grilled cheese!
