Enjoying a slower schedule – for about 6 months I kept thinking, things will slow down next month, and that kept not happening. Now it’s happening and I’m loving it.

Reading only the lightest and fluffiest material now that summer is here. The one upside to my husband bringing home buckets of work every night is that it leaves me plenty of time with my books.

Donating more clothes, books, and toys to unsuspecting thrift stores, libraries and consignment shops everywhere. I never got the nesting urge while I was pregnant, but man, has it hit me now.

Inviting friends for dinner each Sunday evening. You’ll hear more about this fast-favorite tradition soon.

Transferring the stuff of life into my new planner. I splurged on The Simplified Planner this year, dear readers, and I can’t wait to dive into it on August 1.

Dreaming about some kind of fall getaway. We’ve got a wedding in New Jersey in October and I’m tempted to keep driving somewhere after we leave.

IMG_1969.JPG

Thinking about how much more I accomplish when I have a deadline. I have a couple of not-super-important things I want to do, but haven’t done yet, and they’re not getting done because a) I need to break them down into smaller chunks, and b) there’s no real rush to finish them.

Finishing Parks and Rec. I’ve tried watching it straight through a couple of times, but something about this go-round stuck, and my husband and I are almost done. We’ve got Master of None, season 2 on the list to go next, and by the time this post goes up, the new season of Orange is the New Black will be live! It takes place over 72 hours which is super-intriguing to me.

Planning a couple of adventures for the summer months that will make Gooplet’s and my days a little more exciting than usual. If you want it to be spring break, you have to make it spring break. The same is true for summer.

Making: a hair appointment. This is momentous.
Cooking: lots in the slow cooker. Trying a new recipe tonight that does not involved cream of mushroom.
Drinking: Rose in a can!  (also, sparkling cranberry juice; a new obsession)
Reading: Shop Class as Soulcraft. Because my dad told me to.
Wanting: to order a couple more pairs of Pilcro chinos before fall hits.
Looking: into getting built ins made here at La Moneda.
Playing: podcast after podcast.
Deciding: to wait to go to IKEA until after Maryland has started for the year.
Wishing: for the green light to feed Gooplet some solids!
Enjoying: the rhythm of our days lately.
Waiting: on slightly cooler days when I can walk after 10 a.m. without melting.
Liking: how many August birthday cards I’m sending.
Wondering: whether I can keep up with reading at the rate my holds are coming in from the library.
Loving: a new to me Barefoot Contessa recipe (coming soon, duh!)
Pondering: a couple schedule options for fall. It stresses me out to think about schedules again!
Considering: ways to organize the pantry.  Boring, but necessary.
Watching: UnReal. And it’s so good.
Hoping: my husband has to go on a business trip somewhere fun, and we can tag along.
Marveling: at the uptick in laundry a daily pool visit causes.
Needing: a new TV. Our big guy broke.
Smelling: chlorine.
Wearing: athletic shorts on repeat.
Following: my gut when it comes to a couple of mom-things.
Noticing: how quiet DC is in August. We’re not usually home.
Knowing: that we are slowly turning La Moneda into exactly the house we want.
Thinking: about making the most giant to-do list that ever was.
Feeling: weird about this back to school season looking so different.
Admiring: people who are really and truly kind.
Sorting: through a bunch of books.
Buying: new little boy clothes from ThredUp.
Getting: so emotional over Olympic wins.
Bookmarking: everything on Pinterest.
Disliking: how fast summer always flies by.
Praying: for lots of big people I know, headed off to college.
Opening: real mail. I love real mail.
Giggling: at the swim team’s carpool karaoke.
Snacking: on milkshakes. If that’s a snack.
Coveting: Pottery Barn outdoor furniture.
Wishing: I could magically make travel with a baby easier and Hamilton tickets fell in my lap.
Helping: myself to M&Ms each evening.  Guilty pleasure.
Hearing: white noise.  Always white noise.

Every time I post a currently list, I check back in the archives and make sure it’s been a while since I made one.  And I pray you’re not sitting at home going, Gaaaaaaah, there she goes again with another one of those fill in the blank posts.  But the thing is, I love them.  Thus, your next installment.  Enjoy!

selfie

Also, my selfie game is spot on here, IMO.

Also 60% of this list is related to television.  Just so you know where I’m coming from right now.

Making: serious decisions when it comes to our soon-to-be kitchen.  I gave a lovely woman named Kellie this pin, and told her to go crazy.
Cooking: nothing; but I’m baking up a storm.  Stay tuned right here, dear readers.
Drinking: champagne sangria soon, I hope
Reading: Being Mortal, because Elise and Joanna told me to.
Wanting: to spend some time beating butter, flour, sugar, and eggs together tomorrow.
Looking: into heading up to NYC for a summer class with a coworker.  Any excuse to live there for the week…
Playing: with a new toy I got for work.
Deciding: whether or not to invest in new jeans
Wishing: I could snap my fingers and clean my room, a la my hero.
Enjoying:  my simple weeknight routine: barre, dinner, TV, bed.
Waiting: a couple more weeks for SCL’s birthday extravaganza.  She wants me to make something with cream cheese frosting.  Any ideas, dear readers?
Liking: The amount of (kitchen-related) storage space our new house will have.  Is it possible that there will be a home for all of my…ahem…things?
Wondering: whether this snow will be plowed in time for me to sneak off to a movie (who wants to guess which one?).
Loving:  Pure Barre.  I go three or four times a week, and I can do push ups for real (for probably the first time ever), and it’s amazing.
Pondering: the amount of brain space I need to read.  I have a much harder time sticking with a book when I have a swirl of other events going on in my life.  But in the summer I can put one away each day.  Go figure.
Considering: staying in bed all day.
Watching : Jane the Virgin, which my friend Kristen and I got into after Gina Rodriguez won the Golden Globe a couple of weeks ago.  Also Mozart in the Jungle, John Adams, and New Girl.
Hoping:  for snow days, while at the same time, not wanting snow to hold up our construction
Marveling: at my zen-like state over this renovation (she said as it had only just begun).  I know deadlines will get pushed back.  I know the weather will thwart our plans.  And I know there is nothing I can do about it.
Needing: I can’t think of anything I need right now.  What a fabulous feeling.
Smelling: Snow.  It’s colder than cold, but I cracked the window to breathe in the snow anyway.
Wearing : all the new Beyond Yoga pants (which is such a surprising color choice for me) and my grey Anthro cardigan.  I can’t get enough of them.
Following : I Have This Thing With Floors, We Never Met, and Reese Witherspoon on Instagram
Noticing: that it’s a rare morning when I wake up and don’t feel the need for coffee.  I’m officially addicted.
Knowing: that belting out some of the world’s best ballads at the top of my lungs while driving up and down 95 is good for my health.
Thinking: about how much clutter I’ve amassed in this small space in which we’re currently entrenched.
Feeling: excited about the snow day ahead!
Admiring: people who enter into social settings with nothing but enthusiasm.  Trying to be those people.
Sorting: Laundry.  Always.
Buying : nothing!  Trying super-hard not to spend anything right now.
Getting:  a ton of books in on hold at the library.  This one and this one, in particular.
Bookmarking: kitchens!  Lots of them.  On Houzz.  Which I don’t find as fun as Pinterest.
Disliking: that I completely forgot to tune into Gone With the Wind during TCM’s 31 Days of Oscar.  Praying I don’t make the same mistake with To Kill a Mockingbird on the 18th.
Opening: valentines from all the little people in my life
Giggling: over SNL40.  I know there are a lot of haters, but it had its moments!
Snacking: on conversation hearts – but only the green and orange ones.
Coveting :  cookbooks.  I haven’t bought one since at least last May and there are so many I’m waiting to click purchase on as soon as our kitchen island becomes a reality (which will likely be this May).
Wishing: for a magical, and perhaps nonexistant amount of snow, that lets me off work for two days, but still allows me time to work out and drive around town.
Helping: plan a lunch for 80 this weekend.  Wish me luck?
Hearing:  The Simpsons on in the background here, while my husband gets ready for Better Call Saul.  I’d tell you I watch it, but I really just glance up from the laptop in between violent scenes.

Dear readers, life right now is absolutely, completely, and totally crazy.  It’s full of ups and downs and SO MANY FEELINGS.  The best way I can think to update you is to jump in with one of Pip’s comprehensive lists.

on the beach.

Making : plans for the beach next year!
Cooking : but not really.  More like assembling summer sides that go with meat from the grill.
Drinking : Tom Collins!  New to me and the drink of my summer vacation.
Reading: a book a day, though not really loving any of them yet.
Wanting : for the fall to proceed with as few bumps in the road as possible.
Looking : for a new book I’ll love.  Suggestions?
Playing : podcast after podcast after podcast on my road trips to and from the beach.
Deciding : that taking this summer completely off was the best decision I could have made.
Wishing : that manicures never chipped.
Enjoying : daily walks with new playlists.
Waiting : for a whole bunch of paperwork to clear, only to start in on the next round of paperwork.

Smelling : clothes dried outside on the line.  Heavenly.
Wearing : stretchy pants, because I’ve been on vacation for quite some time.
Following : actually unfollowing a whole bunch of people on Instagram, Twitter, and Feedly.
Noticing : that things tend to happen a lot faster when you’re under a strict deadline.
Knowing : I cannot be the flight attendant for the planet (thank you again, Shauna)
Thinking : that days spent watching Netflix more than you thought possible aren’t bad days.
Feeling : not very much at all about having turned 30, which surprises me.
Admiring : people who keep a positive attitude going more often than not.
Sorting : through years and years of accumulated junk. (#AndThenWeBoughtAHouse)
Buying : (see above)
Getting : a couple pillows custom made from Wooden Nickels’ Etsy shop.
Bookmarking : (Pinning?) interiors I love.
Disliking : that when life comes with a bunch of ups, there will always be some downs mixed in too.
Opening : suitcases, again and again.
Giggling : over the littlest member of our beach crew and his antics.
Feeling : ready to get back to work.  Shocking even myself with this one.
Snacking : on Cheez-It Double Cheese Snack Mix.  My new neon orange food of choice.
Coveting : The Penguin Classics designed by Coralie Bickford Smith, forever and always.
Wishing : I could be in more than one place at once.
Helping : make dessert for a couple upcoming fetes.
Hearing : the waves outside my window as I fall asleep.

When I promise I’ll tell you all about these little washi flags that complete me, and were the perfect companion on a Monday night with boring Olympic events.

Wanting : some j.crew basics (mine need updating)
Looking : forward to the three day weekend

Wishing : I could keep my inbox at 0
Enjoying : this challenge, which I’ve slacked on a bit lately
Waiting : for spring
Liking : the summer Olympics so much more than winter
Wondering : whether I want a Jawbone Up bracelet or a Fitbit
Loving : this song, which I heard on repeat Monday morning
Pondering : a couple new (to me) brunch locations
Considering : ways to eliminate even more stress from my life
Watching : Sherlock — whoa it’s good
Hoping : for one more snow day this year (greedy!)
Marveling : at totchos (tater tot nachos)
Needing : highlights something fierce
Smelling : Mrs. Meyers’ detergent on my clothes all day long
Wearing : my fair isle slippers
Following : as many pretty Instagram feeds as I can find

Thinking : about how best to spend my free time
Feeling : settled
Admiring : people who figured out what really matters
Sorting : my kitchen cabinets
Buying : the cutest notebooks from Target
Getting : ready for a busy week
Bookmarking : Shauna’s words
Disliking : my car’s constant need for attention right now
Opening : too many tabs online each night
Giggling : whilst making up team figure skating commentary with SCL
Feeling : good about some simple changes I made at home
Snacking : on Goldfish mac and cheese
Coveting : glass storage containers instead of plastic — it doesn’t take much
